What I Ate The Day Before The La Jolla Half Marathon + Weekly Meals

Gooooood morning! 

I’m sitting here sipping coffee about to leave to run the La Jolla Half Marathon ahhhhh! I haven’t had this much race anxiety in a long time…well really this much race anxiety EVER!

My shin splints have been hurting, I don’t know the course, I can’t decide which shoes to wear…and for an OCD planner like me it’s making me crazy.

I’m not even going out today trying to get a specific time or anything…I really just want that free Ballast Point beer at the end haha!

Anyway…wish me luck!

For today I wanted to share What I Ate Before The La Jolla Half Marathon.  So here’s a look of what I ate pre half and a little recap of the expo!

Just for the record I am not one of those people who totally changes their eating habits before a race. I eat what my body is use to and so far it it’s worked for me.

What I Ate: Before A Half Marathon

Breakfast: peanut butter chocolate overnight oats with a big cup of coffee

Snack: I’ve recently become re-obsessed with Laughing Cow cheese wedges. Today I had 2 wedges and a few pita crackers from Trader Joe’s.

Lunch: I discovered this Balela salad a couple weeks ago on The Skinny Confidential’s Snapchat. AMAZING! Ever since I’ve been obsessed with just grabbing a few handfuls of greens (today was arugula) and pouring the entire container on top. BOOM. Greens, protein, salad dressing…all in one!

Oh and hydrating of course! The day before a race I always try to drink at least 150 oz of water. To make this easy I get a 50 oz water bottle from Trader Joe’s and put 1/2 a Nuun hydration tab in it. By lunch I was already at 2 full bottles so I was doing good!

At the La Jolla Half Marathon Expo: The expo for this race was so organized and at such a gorgeous location, the Hilton Del Mar. After getting our bibs and shirts my mom, Bryce and I walked around and enjoyed some great samples; mini acai bowls, Nuttzo and Nuun…yes please!

And of course had to snap a few pictures! Note to self, put on a little makeup and brush my hair before the next race expo haha!

Snack: We were STARVING after the expo so the second we got to my parent’s house we devoured some grapes, meat, cheese and crackers. Lucky Bryce even enjoyed a beer! I can’t even have a sip of booze before I race or I get sick.

Dinner: Every single time before I run a half marathon I eat chicken parmesan over pasta. I have no idea why but it just works for me. Pair that with some baby broccoli and a roll…yes please! Sorry in advance these pictures are awful but it sure tasted delicious.

After dinner: I had 3 cups of ginger tea, 2 cookies and another 50 oz of water.

Looking back I probably had WAYYYYYYYYY too much cheese yesterday but hey what can you do.

I really try to not change my diet much before a race. I focus more of my energy on properly hydrating and relaxing.

    Dang girl! You are so inspiring! I haven’t heard of that salad from TJ’s but I need to scope it out. Looks amazing added to a bed of lettuce!

    Chicken parmesan over pasta sounds like the PERECT pre-race meal tradition. I definitely wouldn’t break it ;P

    And FYI, there’s totally no such thing as too much cheese! Ha!

    Oh my goodness, I can barely consume any dairy for like 2-3 days before a race or I have issues haha. Lucky you! I usually plan out all of my meals before a race and stick to very plain pasta or gnocchi for dinner with some tea. Congrats to you and Bryce on an awesome race!

      Thank you so much!! Yeahhhhhh it’s Tuesday and my stomach has not been the same since the race! Thankfully nothing happened during the race…TMI 🙂
