Friday Favorites: Halo Top

What? Healthy and ice cream are not usually words associated with each other…until now!

My friend Harvey recommended Halo Top Creamery’s “healthy ice cream” to me awhile ago but I could never find it in my usual grocery stores so I kind of forgot about it. Until last week when I got that sudden craving for ice cream but didn’t want to totally mess up my diet.

In this oh so very familiar dilemma I finally got motivated to get on Halo Top’s website to see where I could get my hands on some.

I was VERY skeptical about Halo Top. Healthy ice cream immediately just makes me think of Arctic Zero products which aren’t bad but sure as hell are not ice cream. They have a super icy texture and fake flavor that just isn’t for me.

I mean…if it’s not actually going to taste like ice cream then I’d rather not!

Halo Top is a game changer and I’m saying this 100% as my own opinion. This post is NOT sponsored…although I wish it was so I could get some free Halo Top.

Halo Top truly is healthy ice cream that actually tastes like ice cream! Even better, Halo Top is low-calorie, high-protein and low in sugar with only 240-280 calories PER PINT!

Break that down per serving and Halo Top is only 60 calories per 1/2 cup serving…UMMMM YES! Talk about being able to indulge 100% guilt free.

Just how much better is Halo Top v.s. other ice cream brands?

Take a look:

So really what I take away from these images is that I can eat an entire pint of Halo Top or 1/2 a cup of Ben & Jerry’s?

Is that even a question?

All joking aside I personally was very satisfied eating only a 1/2 cup serving of Halo Top at a time. It was extreamly filling, rich and just decadent. I seriously looked forward to my little 1/2 cup of ice cream after dinner from the moment I woke up in the morning the stuff is that good.

Let’s Talk Flavors…

I have tried the Vanilla Bean, Birthday Cake, Chocolate and Strawberry so far and am DYING to get my hands on that Lemon Cake!

My favorite has been the Vanilla Bean and Birthday Cake. Both are very creamy and taste identical to their unhealthy counterparts. The Chocolate and Strawberry were still delicious don’t get me wrong but I just prefer the other two…to each their own!

Here are all the current flavors of Halo Top:

So What’s The Catch?

If you know me in real life I’m very skeptical. I always think when things seem too good to be true…they probably are.

I read the ingredient list 100000 times on Halo Top ice cream and found nothing bad. How they can make such a delicious product with so few ingredients I have no idea.

The two ingredients that may puzzle you on the nutrition label are orangic stevia and erythritol. Stevia is a plant based sweetener from the actual Stevia plant making it a great natural sweetener. But what on earth is erythritol?

What is erythritol?

Erythritol is an all-natural sweetener found naturally in things like pears and grapes. It’s technically a sugar alcohol, but that’s kinda misleading because it’s in a class apart from the other sugar alcohols. For example, erythritol doesn’t affect blood glucose or cause bloating. Source

I didn’t experience any gas, bloating, constipation issues or anything from Halo Top where every time I eat something like Arctic Zero ice cream I find I’m racing to the bathroom 20 minutes after eating just a small amount.

Final Thoughts…

It is very rare for a food product in a healthier form to actually taste like it’s fatty, high sugar original. Halo Top successfully has created a perfect product that has the exact creamy texture of ice cream with the same rich flavors.

I usually buy mine at Ralph’s but am dying to make it to Whole Foods to find that Lemon Cake flavor!

If so, what’s your favorite flavor?

Ive had chocolate and vanilla, and just bought strawberry yesterday but haven’t tried it yet. .. the good flavors like mint, choc mocha and birthday cake are always gone. . Any of the SO delicious coconut milk ice cream is good too and not that bad for you I believe 🙂

I’ll have to check out SO Delicious’s ice cream…I love their coffee creamer! Oh you have no idea what I had to do to get this Birthday Cake flavor. I asked the guy at Ralph’s when they received shipments and showed up right then and there to get one.

Wow, I don’t find anything negative about that, and the fact that is creamy + lower calorie. WOW! It’s pretty amazing that God created so many different forms of sugar. I’m going to check it out. You’re making me want ice cream.

I have yet to try “healthy” ice cream because I love my Ben & Jerry’s so much. This sounds interesting for sure though!

Skip all the other brands and go right to Halo Top. I’ve dried so many “healthy ice creams” and none compare.

I literally buy 2 pints a week, it’s so good! Vons sometimes gives coupons for $2 off, but ralphs has all the best flavors! I can’t wait to try their new ones too!
