Quick Tips

Memorial Day Fruit Skewers

Here’s the dilemma for Memorial Day Weekend: You’ve been working out and eating healthy since summer is right around the corner but have been invited to a couple parties over the holiday weekend. Let’s be realistic here, Memorial Day parties are usually filled with tons of fatty food, chips, dip, sweets and booze…not exactly in alignment with your clean eating goals.

So what to do?

Here’s my #1 tip for handing any party situation when you either don’t know what’s going to be served or if you already know the food isn’t going to be something you want to eat: Bring something you can eat!

Yep, it’s that simple! Bring a giant salad, bring a healthy appetizer and for Memorial Day parties you can bring these fruit skewers.

That way worst case scenario the food is just awful you know there is still something you can eat and enjoy!

Plus these are just too cute right?

These Memorial Day Fruit Skewers are so easy to put together and I promise people will be so thankful someone brought something healthy to the party!

Here’s what you need:

  • about 10 wooden skewers
  • 1 package of blueberries
  • 1 package of strawberries
  • 2 large bananas
  • cute tray/plate to serve these on

  1. ALWAYS wash your fruit first! Then cut up your bananas and cut your strawberries in half.
  2. Slide your fruit onto your skewers! You don’t have to attempt to make these look like the American flag if you don’t want to. Just doing a couple blueberries, a strawberry then a banana looks really cute too!
  3. Arrange onto tray/plate and serve!

So yeah like I said these are SO EASY to throw together and whats a healthier thing to bring to a BBQ than fresh fruit?

Now if you’re craving something a little bit sweeter to bring to your Memorial Day party you have to check out my Patriotic Fruit Pizza that I posted last week.

I’m kind of ashamed to admit that I’ve made it 3 times since making it for that post…whoops!

But it’s seriously so delicious and such a great way to use up fruit that’s about to go bad.

So what am I doing over the long weekend?

Well I’m getting really crazy and fully plan on cleaning out my entire closet, finishing up rewatching all 4 seasons of Vanderpump Rules, deep cleaning my kitchen, running 22 miles and doing a whole lot of relaxing by my pool with these fruit skewers by my side.

Yep, training for a marathon kind of forces you to lay low which can be a very good thing sometimes.

Be safe, have fun and stay healthy this Memorial Day Weekend!

Right! My thought exactly…because I mean who doesn’t want a piece of the American flag on Memorial Day?

So I just ate an array of Trader Joe’s artisan cheeses and split a bottle of wine with a friend haha. I guess I’m not off to the healthiest start of my memorial day weekend BUT I am definitely going to try and be better the rest of the time šŸ™‚ These are adorable!

Ok how cute are these?!?!? I’ve seen fruit like that arranged on cakes like the flag but never in skewers. What a healthy and fun way to celebrate!
