I’ve talked about running the Triple Crown a lot on my blog lately but realize I haven’t really explained what the heck it is.
So here we go..
The San Diego Triple Crown is a trio of half marathons: The Carlsbad Half Marathon, La Jolla Half Marathon and then America’s Finest City Half Marathon that all must be completed within the same year.
You don’t really get anything for completing the Triple Crown besides bragging rights and a special medal but hey I figured 2016 was going to be my big year of running so I might as well go big! Plus there’s nothing like having three specific races in the winter, spring and summer you have to train for to keep you moving.
America’s Finest City Half Marathon Training Update:
I apologize for really not sharing anything about my training for this half marathon but if I’m being honest…I haven’t really been training.
It sounds pathetic but I truly still don’t feel like my body has recovered from running my marathon back in June. Marathoners!!!! Is it even physically possibly to STILL be feeling the effects of running a marathon almost 2 months later?
Anyway, I’ve really just been listening to my body running about 3 times a week and doing a ton of yoga to prepare.
My goal for the race is really just to finish and run smart. August can be one of the hottest months here in San Diego and if it’s 100 degrees and humid come race day you bet I’m walking!
Super slow & sweaty trail run yesterday!
I wanted to update you all on my toe situation too!
As much as I hate taking pain killers to deal with my toe pain and training for a couple more weeks I’ve been popping an Advil (or two) every single night so my toe pains don’t wake me up.
Amazingly my toe hasn’t bothered me at all when I’m actually running. It is more painful in yoga classes and just walking around at work.
I can’t wait to let it fully heal after America’s Finest City is over.
I live by the saying if you fail to plan you plan to fail.
Creating a plan to fit exercise in during the week is a great habit and is crucial during VERY busy weeks like the one I’m about to have because IT’S MY BIRTHDAY WEEK!
Yep, I’m turning 26 on Thursday which means this week is going to be filled with happy hours, sweets, dinners out, wine…etc.
I 110% plan on enjoying myself but also have to fit in my workouts! #NoExcuses
- Monday: Hot yoga
- Tuesday: 3-4 mile run + yoga sculpt
- Wednesday: maybe yoga sculpt + birthday happy hour & dinner
- Thursday: NOTHING! Bryce and I are going out to dinner in La Jolla for my actual birthday
- Friday: 5-6 miles
- Saturday: yoga sculpt
- Sunday: probably a hungover 8-10 miles haha
Have you ever completed the San Diego Triple Crown?
Have you ever not really trained for a half marathon?
How do you keep exercise a priority during busy weeks?
