I normally live a very 80/20 lifestyle.
80% of the time I’m working out and eating healthy but that other 20% well… that’s drinking IPAs, eating cookies, partying in Pacific Beach until 2:00 am and ending the night making my Uber driver go through the Taco Bell drive through so I can get a crunch wrap with extra nacho cheese.
After 3 weeks of birthdays, friends in town, family visiting and just summer shenanigans let’s just say I feel a little off balance.
More of a 50/50 lifestyle if you would!
I feel bloated, sluggish and just uncomfortable. It’s time to get my diet and life back on track!
So today..which is Monday I’m going to bring you all along to see EXACTLY what I eat in a day when I’m trying to detox and reset my body.
Think of it as a little virtual food diary.
Wine tasting with my family for my birthday!
Yep, a few too many glasses of wine…
But before we get into that let me just say I strongly believe the following:
- You should NEVER starve yourself attempting to reset your body
- I personally think counting calories is pointless and that eating small frequent meals (about 2 hrs apart) that are high in protein, moderate in fat and low in carbs is the way to go.
- Hydration is everything! Sounds crazy to drink water to de-bloat but it works wonders.
What I Eat To Reset My Body After Falling Off The Wagon:
7:00 am- Woke up 30 minutes late..oops. Had 1 cup of coffee with 1 Tbsp of my favorite creamer.
7:30 am- Had a giant glass of water with lemon, apple cider vinegar and turmeric in it. My version of The Skinny Confidential’s pink detox drink.
8:00 am- When I’m really trying to detox and reset my body I like to drink as much liquid as possible in the morning. Today I had my Green Detox Drink on my commute to work which surprisingly held me over until about 10:00 am. This drink has so many ingredients that help detoxify your body…it’s a lifesaver!
10:00 am- Like I said above I think eating small frequent meals spaced a couple hours apart is the best way for me to speed up my metabolism. So exactly at 10:00 am I had 2 egg muffins. All that’s in these is eggs, red bell pepper, broccoli and a TON of black pepper. I always go to eggs for weight loss since they are incredibly filling, high in protein and low carb.
After I had some food in my system took I also my daily vitamins and supplements.
10:55 am- Just wanted to throw it out there that I also make a point to drink about 200 oz of water per day during detox times. As of right now I’ve already had 40 oz. How do I keep track of all this water you ask? EASY. I’m obsessed with my Hydro Flask bottle! I have a giant one that holds 40 oz of water in it so I know if I get down 5 of them I meet my 200 oz. I highly recommend getting a reusable water bottle in either a 20 oz or 40 oz size to make water tracking easy!
12:30 pm– I hate eating at restaurants when I don’t bring my lunch to work. Even healthy places seem to be loaded with salt, fat and portions double what I really need. So whenever I don’t bring lunch I go to Whole Foods…sorry wallet! I’ve recently been completely obsessed with their Pacific Salad Roll…it has salmon, lettuce, carrots, cabbage, cucumber and avocado in it…yes please! I always skip the soy sauce and just get extra lemon since the last thing you want while detoxing is more salt in your system! Then obviously eat all the ginger it comes with. SO GOOD!
Don’t have a Whole Foods near you? Really any protein and veggie lunch combination will do!
Oh and at this point I’m up to 80 oz of water!
3:30 pm- I wasn’t really hungry but since I had yoga at 5:30 pm I knew I needed to eat something to hold me over until dinner and to keep that metabolism up. I’m obsessed with Siggi’s yogurt and normally add granola for some texture. Since this is a detox day instead of adding granola which has sugars and oils I opted just for raw rolled oats and a teaspoon of chia seeds. I also refilled my Hydro Flak and put in a Nuun hydration tablet…120 oz down!
6:45 pm- Vega Sport protein shake post yoga!
7:30 pm- Time for some carbs…FINALLY! I’m a firm believer that you can eat pasta and still eat healthy. I always use whole wheat and only eat about 1-1.5 cups. PORTION CONTROL IS EVERYTHING! I know this dinner doesn’t look that great but it’s so good. It’s whole wheat pasta, plain hummus, lemon juice then roasted brussel sprouts, broccoli, red peppers and mushrooms. It truly tastes like a fatty alfredo. You can get the recipe here.
9:00 pm- 2 cups of ginger tea with 1 scoop Vital Proteins collagen dissolved in each. Yes, I counted the 2 cups of tea towards my water and hit 200 oz!
