Yes, 31 days without a single sip of booze!
I’ve done sober January the past 2 years and fully plan on doing it again this year after a very boozy holiday season. Oops! For me the first couple weeks are easy because you feel like such crap after the holidays but after that things get challenging. Playoff football is on, friends are in town, there’s the long weekend for Martin Luther King…yep temptation starts to creep in!
From my 2 years of sobriety (in January LOL) I have figured out that having other options is incredible helpful. Instead of your nightly glass of wine having a grape flavored kombucha? Out at the bars for the football game with friends order a sparkling water with lime and tell everyone it’s a vodka soda…nobody has to know.
Even though 1 month without booze will not really make a different in your liver health it is still something that will dramatically help you debloat, lose weight, tone up, make better food choices, sleep better and hey maybe make you feel so good sober January turns into sober February.
Below are 4 drinks I love to sip on when I’m avoiding alcohol. Tip: sipping them out of wine glasses truly does help make things a little bit more exciting…try it!
1. Flavored sparkling water
Remember this post I did about soda alternatives? Flavored sparkling water, specifically Perrier, was one of Bryce’s favorites. I personally love the lime and grapefruit Perrier flavors and also any flavor from La Croix. Just a tip…if you’re out a bar ask for a glass of sparkling water (brand doesn’t matter) with a lemon/lime to trick people into thinking that you’re drinking so they don’t pressure you…very sneaky.
I am OBSESSED with kombucha! It has some pretty insane healthy benefits,tastes delicious and I love the carbonation. For sober January try swapping your nightly glass of wine with a glass of kombucha. My favorite kombucha brands right now are GT’s and Health-Ade. Try to find the California grape Health-Ade flavor or gingerberry GT’s and you won’t even miss your vino.
3. Water infused with fruit/veggies/herbs
Drinking more water is another very popular New Years resolution but drinking plain water can get really old really quickly. Try making your water more exciting by adding some fresh fruit, veggies or herbs. Not only will it add a ton of flavor but you’ll also feel extra fancy sipping it from a glass.
4. Sparkling water with juice
Some people need a little more flavor than the hint of lime in a Perrier. Sparkling waters with real fruit juice in them are SO delicious and refreshing while still being low calorie. I’m not a big juice person because of a all the sugar so these Spindrift sparking waters have been awesome alternatives. You can also try doing half of your favorite juice and half sparkling water…it’s delish!
