Friday Favorites

friday favorites

I’m currently writing this post DROOLING watching the Top Chef finale on Bravo.

How on earth do these people think of such incredible dishes? I can hardly think about what I want to eat for dinner.

Anyway…it’s been awhile since I’ve done a Friday Favorites post and this one is going to be a little bit random but whatever. I promise for the next round I’m going to have some really good stuff to tell you all about. I’m already obsessing over Trader Joe’s new red lentil pasta and everything bagel seasoning- SO GOOD!

Enjoy and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Rao’s Sauce

Once you taste Rao’s sauce you will NEVER be able to eat regular pasta sauce again.

I had always heard amazing things about Rao’s sauce but could never bring myself to pay $8 for a jar of marinara. Well one fateful day my Sprouts had Rao’s on sale for $5 and I took it as a sign it was finally time to try Rao’s for myself and see if it lived up to its hype.

Well, it not only lived up to the hype it completely exceeded my expectations. This sauce is so flavorful and contains only clean, real food ingredients as opposed to other brands that sneak sugar and other fillers into their sauces…no thanks.

I’m obsessed with using this sauce over whole wheat pasta, spaghetti squash, for chicken parmesan, on zoodles…EVERYTHING!

So next time you’re at the store treat yourself and try Rao’s….you can thank me later.

Pressed Juicery Freeze

If you have an Instagram you’ve probably seen food bloggers posting about Pressed Freeze.

I finally gave in after seeing my 100000000th gorgeous pcture of this mysterious frozen deliciousness and made the 30 minute drive to the closest freeze location and you guys…IT’S INCREDIBLE!

Pressed freeze far exceeded my expectations and thank god there is not a location closer to me because I’d be there every single day.

What is freeze? Basically it’s healthy juice served like frozen yogurt. Here’s some of the flavors:

  • Vanilla Almond Freeze: almonds, dates, vanilla bean and sea salt.
  • Citrus Freeze: orange, apple, pineapple, dates, and coconut.
  • Chocolate Almond Freeze: cacao, almonds, dates, vanilla bean and sea salt.
  • Roots Freeze: beets, carrots, apple, lemon, ginger, dates, and coconut.

To find the Pressed Juicery Freeze location nearest you check out their website…I promise it’s worth the drive.

I got half chocolate and half vanilla topped with cacao, almond butter and coconut…SO GOOD!

Farmhouse Culture Gut Shots

Let me just say I am not a sauerkraut fan and really not a fan of fermented foods at all. BUT one day I was casually strolling through the aisles at my local Whole Foods and they were giving out samples of Gut Shots. I’m a sucker for a free sample so I ended up trying all the flavors and LOVED them.

The demo gal explained to me that Farmhouse Culture Gut Shots are rich in probiotics which are live, healthy bacteria that keep a healthy balance in your gut.

Founder of Farmhouse Culture, Kathryn Lukas explains the benefits of Gut Shots best; “our bodies are home to trillions of bacteria, and we’re learning more every day about how essential it is to our overall well-being to keep that community of bacteria (aka our microbiome) balanced. Things like poor diet, stress, medication, illness, aging and even traveling can throw our microbiome out of balance. The good news is that a probiotic-rich diet, one with sauerkraut, can help.”

I’m currently obsessed with the Ginger Beet and Garlic Dill Pickle flavors and make a point to have a gut shot every single morning after breakfast . It really helps set the tone for my day of eating and I honestly just really enjoy the flavor.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Speaking of my morning shot routine…in addition to 1 Farmhouse Culture Gut Shot I’ve also been having 1 shot of apple cider vinegar.

I’m not going to lie apple cider vinegar tastes like CRAP the first couple times you drink it but I promise the taste does eventually grow on you.

So why do I have a shot of nasty apple cider vinegar every morning? I primarily do it because apple cider vinegar helps to balance your body’s pH which helps boost your immune system and gives you more energy. Ever since I started having my daily shot I have not gotten sick so hey that’s saying something considering almost everyone at my work has been dying recently.

In addition to pH balance apple cider vinegar also is believed to help regular blood sugar, boost heart health, detoxify the liver and other organs, aid with digestion and may even help you lose weight.

I highly recommend giving it a try!

Your Turn,

Have you been watching Top Chef this season?

Have you tried Pressed Juicery Freeze yet?

Do you eat/drink anything special to prevent getting sick?

Yes Apple Cider Vinegar – so under rated! I’ve been using that with lemon and salt and pepper as a salad dressing and it is so good!

I’ve seen Pressed Juicery freeze shots all over Instagram! I just checked and sadly, it doesn’t look like there are any on the East coast. Hopefully they’ll expand my way soon because I’d love to try it!
