3 Healthier Hot Dog Options For Your 4th of July BBQ

healthier hot dog

I truly can’t believe that the 4th of July is in less than 2 weeks.

Where the heck has this year gone?

Normally, I don’t do much for the 4th since it’s kind of amateur hour here in San Diego with a bunch of drunk tourists getting arrested at the beach. But, this year I have plans. My family has a house on Lake Michigan and it’s been years since we’ve all made the effort to get out there. Last week we pulled the trigger and officially booked tickets!

Buying these tickets got me thinking of all the 4th of July foods and just how terrible most of the meats, appetizers and sides are for you. So, I started brainstorming some healthier options to share on my blog.

I made a healthy, festive, delicious side dish recipe I’m sharing on the blog next week but today I wanted to talk about my favorite 4th of July food…HOT DOGS!

Yep, I’m OBSESSED with hot dogs and guess what…they don’t have to be chemical filled, rubbery, nasty, fake meat dogs anymore. I went into my local Trader Joe’s last week and really scoped out their options and wanted to share these 3 Healthier Hot Dog Options with you all.

Enjoy and be sure to share your favorite healthier hot dog options in the comments!

3 Healthier Hot Dog Options

1.) Trader Joe’s Uncured Beef Hot Dogs

  • organic
  • grass-fed beef
  • no nitrates
  • gluten free
  • no MSG

ingredients- organic beef, water, potassium lactate, sea salt, celery powder, organic minced onion, organic garlic, organic coriander, organic white pepper, organic nutmeg, organic mace, organic ginger

my thoughts- These hot dogs taste delicious and I love the fact that they are organic and made from grass-fed beef. The only thing I’m a little sketched out by is the potassium lactate but hey if that’s the only chemical in these that’s great compared to normal hot dogs.
