I still can’t believe I’ve lived in California my entire life and waited this long to make the short trip up to the Pacific Northwest (Washington and Oregon). I truly fell in love with it’s beauty and can’t wait to go back!
I only had 6 days in the Pacific Northwest and had to squeeze running my first marathon in there so there was no time for relaxing. But hey that’s the way my family does vacations…go, go, go and see as much as you can.
So for a little trip recap I wanted to highlight 5 things you can’t miss when visiting the Pacific Northwest! There’s 845794385 things I wish I could have fit in to this trip but these are just 5 highlights for me!
Please feel free to add some suggestions in the comments 🙂
Got a little throwback action going on today of my dad and I circa 1990..chubby cheeks and everything haha!
What’s really not fair is that my dad looks EXACTLY the same in 2016…really? What are you secrets dad? I may just have to feature my dad on the blog to talk about his daily energy drinks that contain every vitamin on the planet or how he stays motivated to workout every day.
With that, let’s introduce my dad Mark aka King Leonidas from 300 (he wishes) He’s a big weight lifter, loves craft beer and is always seeking some kind of adventure whether it be in Southern Utah or just in the backyard.
Hello and happy happy Friday!
I haven’t done one of these “Friday Favorites” posts in awhile so figured it was time.
As usual most of the things I’m currently obsessing over are food and running related but hey that’s kind of my life right now.
I apologize in advance for the picture quality in this post. I was just snapping pictures of everything as I was using/ eating it this week.
Anyway, let’s get right into 6 things I’ve been LOVING lately!
We’ve officially (almost) made it to the weekend!
This was my first week working at Perfect Bar and to say I’m exhausted would be an understatement. This isn’t just another new job for me this is an actual career! Working for Perfect Bar is a dream come true and I’ve put 110% of my heart and soul into this first week.
Normally I’d say bring on a glass or ummm BOTTLE of wine to celebrate and relax but I’m holding strong to my no booze until after my marathon promise.
SO…option #2: A guilt free protein ice cream sandwich instead???
True Food Kitchen is my favorite restaurant in all of San Diego!
And lucky for readers all over the country there are True Food locations now in Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, Denver, El Segundo, Fairfax, Houston, Newport Beach, Phoenix, Santa Monica and Scottsdale. For more information and to see locations coming soon click here.
I already did a detailed restaurant review on True Food Kitchen so this one is going to focus specifically on their Spring Menu.
I’m a huge fan of eating seasonally. The food just has so much more flavor so I love that True Food changes their menu every season to consistently provide the most delicious food possible.
Mother’s Day is Sunday May 8th aka less than 2 weeks away!
I don’t know about your mom but mine is HARD to shop for! She has every kitchen gadget in the world, prefers to buy clothing for herself and isn’t really into makeup/ beauty products.
That’s why when it comes to buying her gifts I really have to think outside of the box. Most of the time I start just thinking about products/ services that I’m LOVING and know she would appreciate as well.
A couple weeks ago I did a post on 5 Running Mistakes To Avoid. One of those huge mistakes is eating terribly then expecting to go run without any issues.
Uhhh not exactly going to work.
As much as I think I deserve a bacon cheeseburger, fries and a giant beer after an awesome workout I’m realizing that there are other ways to reward yourself that are not food related.
Fellow runner and blogger Kellen at A Cup of Kellen suggested treating yourself to a mani/pedi and another friend suggested putting away a little bit of money after every awesome workout to put towards a trip.
Here are 10 ways to reward yourself after a great workout without food:
- manicure or pedicure (runners we could always use a pedi)
- new workout clothes
- putting money away for a trip
- getting a massage or go to the spa
- new shoes
- buy a new healthy cookbook or really any book
- give yourself permission to take a bubble bath and a nap
- put some money towards a fitness tracker like a Fitbit or running watch like a Garmin
- invest in some new kitchen gear (I’ve been dying for a new blender and at my 20 mile milestone may splurge)
- take a fun class (cooking, painting, pottery…etc)
At the first of the month I always like to evaluate my goals;
- Am I where I need to be for marathon training?
- Have I let my diet slip?
- Have I been spending too much money?
Those are the 3 big things I’m personally reflecting on going into April. I’m doing well on my marathon training and saving money for upcoming vacations but my diet….that’s a totally different story.
I have completely let my diet slip by creating this bad habit of having sweets after both lunch and dinner. I’m at the point where if I don’t have sugar after a meal I get a headache and just don’t feel satisfied.
But enough complaining, it’s officially time to quit binging on M&M’s and Udi’s cookies and Spring Clean my diet.
Today I’m partnering with Chobani Simply 100 for their project on staying healthy throughout the day. The Chobani Simply 100 line has recently come out with new flavors and has created the first and only 100 calorie greek yogurt with crunchy, natural goodies on the side.
Hello, hello, hello and Happy Friday!
I’m writing this really quickly before heading out for a 15 mile run and then driving to VEGAS!
My whole plan is to run, pass out while Bryce drives and then magically wake up in Vegas rested and ready to go.
I haven’t done a Friday Favorites post in awhile so I wanted to share some of the things I’m LOVING right now!
If you’re from Southern California you’ve probably heard of Pizza Port…if not, you’ve been missing out and I’m glad you’re reading this review right now.
A little history…
Pizza Port was started in 1987 by 2 siblings who decided to take a risk and buy a struggling pizza place in Solana Beach. They put their own “San Diego Twist” on the restaurant and it quickly gained popularity!
Fast forward to now…there are now Pizza Port locations in Carlsbad, Ocean Beach, San Clemente, Solana Beach and Bressi Ranch. Pizza Port has also started brewing their own beer which has won multiple awards at events such as the Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup.
Read more about Pizza Port here.
OMG but pizza and beer isn’t healthy…
I understand my blog is supposed to be about being healthy, but hey everybody needs a cheat day here and there especially during marathon training.
Sorry not sorry. I live that 80/20 lifestyle….80% healthy, 20% whatever the heck I want. It’s all about balance right?
