Christmas is in 19 days…are you freaking out yet?
For once in my life I’m actually VERY calm.
The past few years I’ve ended up spending hundreds of dollars buying everyone in my family gifts, gifts for holiday parties, gifts for work events, gifts for friends, gifts for fitness instructors…etc but this year I’m really trying to make the holidays as affordable (but still enjoyable) as possible.
To do that my family and I are doing a “Secret Santa” exchange so I only have to buy 1 nice gift…WIN! My friends and I are not doing gifts and instead are doing “experiences” like meeting up for wine tasting or happy hours…WIN! And for everyone else I’ve picked out 5 gifts (under $25) that I personally own and am OBSESSED with that I think everyone else would enjoy too.
I’m sure you all have seen posts raving about collagen all over social media these days BUT what is it and can it really do all the incredible things it’s suppose to do?
I’ve been holding off doing this post for awhile because I wanted to speak about collagen from my own personal experience. For the past 6 months I’ve been using Vital Protein’s collagen mostly to help with my joints from running, prevent bone loss/ damage from my awful shin splints and decrease my anixety. With all the miracle supplements on the market I never expected to notice a difference from collagen but spolier alter…I fell in love with this supplement and really am a believer in the power of collagen.

I can’t believe Thanksgiving is next week…uhhhh where did the time go?
Last year I made a ton of fun Thanksgiving recipes for the blog and I’m sorry guys but the holidays kind of snuck up on me this year…ooops! Don’t worry though I do have one fun Thanksgiving appetizer to share next week that is so delicious and literally takes 2 minutes to throw together.
Today I figured it had been awhile since I’d done a Friday Favorites post and I have discovered some pretty amazing products over the past month. These aren’t just products I’ve had once and liked…these are products that since I’ve tried them they have become weekly necessitates when going to the grocery store…sorry wallet.

At this point there are SO MANY different options out there for “healthy” nutrition bars it’s hard to know which ones are actually good for you and which are simply candy bars in disguise.
For this post I decided to do a little taste test/ ingredient review on 5 “healthy” nutrition bars that I’ve seen all over social media lately. I tried multiple flavors of each bar before writing this and randomly chose the flavors I took pictures of. This post is NOT sponsored and all my thoughts are my own.

As usual most of the things I’m currently obsessing over are food and running related but hey that’s kind of my life right now.

Anyway, let’s get right into 6 things I’ve been LOVING lately!
We’ve officially (almost) made it to the weekend!
This was my first week working at Perfect Bar and to say I’m exhausted would be an understatement. This isn’t just another new job for me this is an actual career! Working for Perfect Bar is a dream come true and I’ve put 110% of my heart and soul into this first week.
Normally I’d say bring on a glass or ummm BOTTLE of wine to celebrate and relax but I’m holding strong to my no booze until after my marathon promise.
SO…option #2: A guilt free protein ice cream sandwich instead???
Mother’s Day is Sunday May 8th aka less than 2 weeks away!
I don’t know about your mom but mine is HARD to shop for! She has every kitchen gadget in the world, prefers to buy clothing for herself and isn’t really into makeup/ beauty products.
That’s why when it comes to buying her gifts I really have to think outside of the box. Most of the time I start just thinking about products/ services that I’m LOVING and know she would appreciate as well.
A couple weeks ago I did a post on 5 Running Mistakes To Avoid. One of those huge mistakes is eating terribly then expecting to go run without any issues.
Uhhh not exactly going to work.
As much as I think I deserve a bacon cheeseburger, fries and a giant beer after an awesome workout I’m realizing that there are other ways to reward yourself that are not food related.
Fellow runner and blogger Kellen at A Cup of Kellen suggested treating yourself to a mani/pedi and another friend suggested putting away a little bit of money after every awesome workout to put towards a trip.
Here are 10 ways to reward yourself after a great workout without food:
- manicure or pedicure (runners we could always use a pedi)
- new workout clothes
- putting money away for a trip
- getting a massage or go to the spa
- new shoes
- buy a new healthy cookbook or really any book
- give yourself permission to take a bubble bath and a nap
- put some money towards a fitness tracker like a Fitbit or running watch like a Garmin
- invest in some new kitchen gear (I’ve been dying for a new blender and at my 20 mile milestone may splurge)
- take a fun class (cooking, painting, pottery…etc)
At the first of the month I always like to evaluate my goals;
- Am I where I need to be for marathon training?
- Have I let my diet slip?
- Have I been spending too much money?
Those are the 3 big things I’m personally reflecting on going into April. I’m doing well on my marathon training and saving money for upcoming vacations but my diet….that’s a totally different story.
I have completely let my diet slip by creating this bad habit of having sweets after both lunch and dinner. I’m at the point where if I don’t have sugar after a meal I get a headache and just don’t feel satisfied.
But enough complaining, it’s officially time to quit binging on M&M’s and Udi’s cookies and Spring Clean my diet.
