A couple weeks ago I did a post on 5 Running Mistakes To Avoid. One of those huge mistakes is eating terribly then expecting to go run without any issues.
Uhhh not exactly going to work.
As much as I think I deserve a bacon cheeseburger, fries and a giant beer after an awesome workout I’m realizing that there are other ways to reward yourself that are not food related.
Fellow runner and blogger Kellen at A Cup of Kellen suggested treating yourself to a mani/pedi and another friend suggested putting away a little bit of money after every awesome workout to put towards a trip.
Here are 10 ways to reward yourself after a great workout without food:
- manicure or pedicure (runners we could always use a pedi)
- new workout clothes
- putting money away for a trip
- getting a massage or go to the spa
- new shoes
- buy a new healthy cookbook or really any book
- give yourself permission to take a bubble bath and a nap
- put some money towards a fitness tracker like a Fitbit or running watch like a Garmin
- invest in some new kitchen gear (I’ve been dying for a new blender and at my 20 mile milestone may splurge)
- take a fun class (cooking, painting, pottery…etc)
At the first of the month I always like to evaluate my goals;
- Am I where I need to be for marathon training?
- Have I let my diet slip?
- Have I been spending too much money?
Those are the 3 big things I’m personally reflecting on going into April. I’m doing well on my marathon training and saving money for upcoming vacations but my diet….that’s a totally different story.
I have completely let my diet slip by creating this bad habit of having sweets after both lunch and dinner. I’m at the point where if I don’t have sugar after a meal I get a headache and just don’t feel satisfied.
But enough complaining, it’s officially time to quit binging on M&M’s and Udi’s cookies and Spring Clean my diet.
Today I’m partnering with Chobani Simply 100 for their project on staying healthy throughout the day. The Chobani Simply 100 line has recently come out with new flavors and has created the first and only 100 calorie greek yogurt with crunchy, natural goodies on the side.
Hello, hello, hello and Happy Friday!
I’m writing this really quickly before heading out for a 15 mile run and then driving to VEGAS!
My whole plan is to run, pass out while Bryce drives and then magically wake up in Vegas rested and ready to go.
I haven’t done a Friday Favorites post in awhile so I wanted to share some of the things I’m LOVING right now!
Last week I shared two very exciting posts;
- My first official month of training for the Rock N Roll Seattle Marathon
- My full review of Kayla Itsines’s 12 week Bikini Body Guide program
If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile you know every Monday I do a “Weekly Workouts” post and for the past 12 weeks that’s also contained an update on how I was doing with the Bikini Body Guide. Now that I’ve officially completed that it’s time to close that chapter and move onto a new one….MARATHON TRAINING!
I have about 3.5 months until my first full marathon but time flies! I have to start building up my mileage now to ever get comfortable with the thought of running 26.2 miles AH! So instead of Bikini Body Guide updates you all are now going to be part of this crazy journey of running my first marathon. The good, the bad, the ugly…
About a month ago I did a post on Soda Alternatives. I had my boyfriend (an ex-soda addict) test out popular alternatives and give me his VERY honest feedback…maybe too honest on some of the products.
One of his favorites turned out to be Ginger Root Beer by Zevia. He was so impressed that it actually tasted like soda and had just the right amount of carbonation.
So when Zevia reached out asking if I’d like to sample more flavors I was thrilled. I loved the Ginger Root Beer as well and was so excited to see if any other flavors were equally as good.
What is Zevia? -“Zevia is the leading zero calorie, naturally sweetened soda in the United States…”
Growing up I was never allowed to drink soda. My parents drilled it into my head that soda was one of the worst things you could put into your body and it stuck.
I honestly don’t think I even had my first soda until I was in high school and hated everything about it. However, I am the 1% of the population who dislikes soda.
Most people love soda. They love soda so much they drink multiple cans a day. I have friends who even go through an entire 2-liter of soda in a day! It’s an addiction.
So what is it about soda that makes it so bad for you?
1 word = SUGAR!!!!!!!
Now here’s something interesting…have you ever read a nutrition label and looked at the amount of sugar in a product? It’s always written in grams! In my opinion this is done because most people have no idea what a gram of sugar looks like and if they did they probably would not be consuming that product.
Let’s break it down,
We made it to Friday YAY! Is it just me or was that the longest 4 day work week ever? Maybe it’s just me and that’s why I’m extra excited to present my first “Friday Favorites” post- something new that I’ll be doing monthly.
I’m so guilty of visiting 985945 different blogs a day, Pinning their amazing recipes then never actually following through on making anything…oops!
So this week I decided to change that! I know fellow bloggers put so much hard work and effort into creating delicious recipes to share with their readers and so I decided to actually follow through and try some out! Today I’m sharing 2 of my favorite recipes I made this week and my new favorite workout pants.
New favorite breakfast: 3 Ingredient Pancakes by The Skinny Confidential
I’ve been in a serious breakfast rut and discovering these pancakes has given me a whole new reason to wake up in the morning! These pancakes are SO EASY to make and I was shocked how flavorful they were.
All you need is 1 banana, 2-3 eggs and 1 Tbsp of chia seeds- THAT’S IT! The complete recipe is on The Skinny Confidential.
As I mentioned in both my Weekly Meals and Weekly Workouts posts this week I’m running my 1st half marathon of 2016 on Sunday. This means my usual sneaking in a few chocolates here, a couple chips there and maybe having some buttery microwaved popcorn at work needs to stop (temporarily). I have such a sensitive stomach eating 1 wrong this can mess me up for days so I have to be extra careful with my eating before a race.
A few months ago I read an article Kellen at A Cup of Kellen wrote after running her first full marathon titled “20 things I wish I knew before running a marathon”. After reading this my view on eating and running completely changed by 1 simple statement she made:
“Eat to run, don’t run to eat”
That simple little statement hit home. I’m so guilty of finishing an awesome training run and immediately going home and stuffing my with a bagel and cream cheese for breakfast, pizza for lunch then getting froyo for dessert because “I earned it”. Well, sucks when I wake up the next feeling awful and sluggish. “Eat to run, don’t run to eat”. I’m really working on changing my mindset from “I earned this crappy food” to “what food can I eat that will make my runs even better” and it’s made such a difference in both my recovery time and training.
This “What I Ate Wednesday” (which is actually what I ate on Tuesday) is to show you all what I typically eat in a day leading up to a big race. It’s not perfect, but hey it works.

Last weeks workouts went great! I was feeling a little bit overwhelmed at the beginning of the week trying to wrap my head around fitting in all the extra cardio weeks 5-8 of BBG call for but doing these 35 minutes cardio sessions before work or on my lunch break went perfectly. In fact, getting out of the office at lunch for some exercise helped my sanity so much this may become a permanent thing haha.
I really just can’t express enough how much blogging about my weekly workout schedule helps me. It holds me so accountable simply knowing that sharing this may inspire just 1 person to start getting healthy.
Kayla Itsines’s Bikini Body Guide (BBG) gets pretty advanced pretty darn quickly. I’m really struggling using the gym at my apartment to do the guides properly. My gym has basic equipment but does not have multiple benches, medicine balls, steps…etc so hey I’ve had to be creative. Hence using 2 treadmills instead of 2 benches for sumo squats on leg day.
