11 Healthy Products I Always Buy At Costco

Long time no talk…

If you follow me on Instagram (which you should) you know I’ve been out in Austin, Texas this past week for work. While I didn’t get to do much exploring in Austin I did manage to sneak in a delicious lunch at Picnik, splurge on gourmet tacos at Velvet Taco and got to walk around The Domain to experience a little bit of nightlife.

As many of you know I work for Perfect Bar, the original refrigerated protein bar, in the field marketing department. I was out in Austin helping to generate awareness that Perfect Bars are now sold in select Costco locations in Texas WOO HOO!

After spending countless hours inside Costco it got me thinking on my flight home about all the healthy products I always purchase from Costco. It’s so easy to go in there and leave with chips, dips, frozen pizzas, mini wontons, ice cream…etc but there truly are some incredible healthy products hidden in there among all the crap.

What I Ate Wednesday: Leftovers Edition

I love leftovers. They just make life so much easier.

One of the best tips I can give to anyone struggling to think of healthy lunch ideas is to simply cook a double portion at dinner.

Bryce probably thinks I’m crazy but right when I’m done cooking dinner  I break out 2 Tupperware and immediately portion out lunches for us both before we dig in.

This helps in so many ways:

  • We both have a healthy lunch ready for the next day
  • It helps control portions at dinner
  • You save so much money
  • You save SO MUCH TIME!!!!!
  • The lunches are way more exciting than some boring turkey sandwich over and over again

WAIW

Today I’m linking up with Peas And Crayons for a Leftovers Edition of What I Ate Wednesday (WIAW).

On Sunday I had a BBQ at my house for my sister’s birthday and purposely cooked tons of extra salmon, steak and sausage to have for the week…killing 2 birds with 1 stone right? Host a BBQ and meal prep for the week!

What I Ate Wednesday

WIAW

I got such positive feedback last time I did a What I Ate Wednesday (WIAW) post so I wanted to do another one. This is more of What I Ate on Tuesday but hey you get it.

If you have no idea what WIAW is all about visit the blog Peas And Crayons for a full explanation. It’s basically bloggers sharing what they really eat in a day. The purpose of this being to share ideas and inspire healthy eating all over the web.

WIAW

Let’s get to it!

6:00am: Woke up and hit snooze 893749324 times

6:30am: Jose’s Chocolate Raspberry Coffee (SO GOOD) with less than 1 Tbsp of Silk vanilla almond milk creamer

7:30am: My Green Detox Drink 2.0! I’ve recently been changing up my daily green drink. Now I dissolve 1 Nuun tab into the water to give it some extra flavor and beneficial electrolytes. Then I just do 3 giant handfulls of kale, about a cup of mixed tropical fruit, a giant piece (about thumb size) of fresh ginger then a heaping scoop of Amazing Grass Green SuperFood.

WEEKLY MEALS- JANUARY 3RD

It’s officially 2016 and the only real differences I’ve noticed is that the gym is more packed than ever and that Trader Joe’s was sold out of kale yesterday….hello resolution time.

Resolutions are an important thing to talk about and I really learned this after working in weight loss for years. It goes like this for most people:

  1. Make a resolution to get fit, lose weight, eat healthy…
  2. Stick to it for 2 weeks
  3. Give up because you’re not seeing results fast enough

I really want to stress to you all to not expect to change overnight. Change takes time and that’s a good thing. You have to give your body time to adjust to a new routine. Plus let’s look big picture…don’t focus on just losing 10 lbs in 2016…focus on losing that 10 lbs then keeping it off for good!

Be patient and let these wonderful resolutions truly become a part of your life long-term not just for January.

Rant over.

Let’s get to my Weekly Meals. It’s suppose to rain all week and barely get above 60 here in San Diego- THIS IS FREEZING and yes I’m a complete baby (hence my $300 SDG&E bill from having the heat on 24/7…whoops).

Freezing temps = soups, casseroles and pastas in my house (skinny versions of course).

WHAT I REALLY EAT IN A DAY

In honor of Wellness Wednesday I thought I’d share with you all what I eat in a typical day. I LOVE when other bloggers do this because it gives me so many new ideas and is refreshing to see that these healthy role models you idolize are not 100% perfect all the time.

I’ll be the first to admit I do not eat perfectly! I know I should probably eat more vegetables and definitely eat dinner too late at night but hey it works for me. I work a 9am-6pm desk job Monday- Friday and prefer evening workouts so my days are LONG…REALLY LONG!

I consider myself a pretty active person and try to eat about 1800 calories a day so don’t panic when I”m seriously eating every 2 hours. I don’t restrict any food groups…I simply eat what fills me up and keeps cravings away. If you all could see my office you’d understand there is so much junk EVERYWHERE. My biggest secret though isn’t the food I eat during the day it’s the fact that I have 1 cup of coffee in the morning then drink about 200 oz of water throughout the day. Water will change your skin, energy levels, flatten your tummy and really just help keep you full. DRINK UP!

This is EXACTLY what I ate yesterday at work. Tuesdays I work 9am-6pm and then go to yoga at 7:00pm-8:00pm (hey BBG stretch day)!

Enjoy:

What I really eat in a day:

5:45 am- Wake up

6:00 am- But first, COFFEE, always! I love buying the big bag of Jose’s Vanilla Nut coffee from Costco and then Silk’s vanilla or hazelnut soy creamer. I’ve found soy creamer mixes the best with coffee and doesn’t separate like almond milk and coconut milk.

7:00 am- Breakfast time! I had 1 slice of Ezekiel cinnamon raisin bread (toasted) with 1 Tbsp of peanut butter smeared on top. It seriously tastes like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for breakfast…YUM!

  • Tip for peanut butter if there are any other ingredients besides peanuts and maybe salt- DON’T BUY IT! I personally love a little salt in my peanut butter…terrible I know.
